Splash Island is a giant inflatable water obstacle course

Brasstown Bald Wilderness Area

You can hike along the Wagon Train Trail, which was originally constructed with convict labor. The trail served as a social gathering place, where wagon trains of families would travel. It was later designated a wilderness area by Congress, which helps preserve the natural landscape. After hiking in the wilderness, you can continue on the private roadbed that continues for 1.3 miles.

At the summit of Brasstown Bald, you can take a walk to the Wagon Train Trail, which used to be part of GA Highway 66. It is located on the right side of the trail and is marked with a plaque. You can continue your hike to the Wagon Train Road, which ends at Young Harris College. There is also a paved trail leading to the visitors’ center.

Climbing Brasstown Bald is possible year-round, but it can be hazardous if snow covers the road in the winter. Bell Mountain was originally Cherokee land, but was taken over by the white settlers during the 1832 Cherokee Removal Act. It was then passed down through various hands until it was bought by William Taylor through a land lottery. The mountain was used as a quartzite mine in the 1960s, but the quarry didn’t last. In 2015, the property was deeded to Towns County, and the park was formally named Bell Mountain Park and Historic Site.

Bell Mountain is famous for eagle watching. It is located only five miles from the city of Hiawassee. It is a great place for sunset hikes and off-roading. Another popular feature of the park is the American flag, which is waved from its summit.
